Well, I have to admit when I'd just released it I was fairly pleased with it. However, the feedback within the next few days was more than a little negative. Preety much everyone who played it hated this level it appears, and it made me think about why. I had thought, and still think now, that this map was basically an improvement over the last two in many ways. I think the problem was that I was more ambitious, and the flaws in the other maps became far more evident on a larger scale.
The dank, dull interiros in the Hideout maps had suited the setting quite well, but in trying to create an ominous looking Remnant research facility, I didn't get anything like the right look. Many of the complaints were about repeating textures in large areas, and I can't argue with that. Many complaints about the lack of attention to detail, and although I used some prefabs and created some items of equiptment/machinery that I was quite pleased with, notably the shield and power generators, I have to admit with hindsight that it just wasn't relalistic enough, it was like a load of rooms wsith a feww objects in a tokenistic attempt at detail.
I took on more than I could deal with when I created a few large rooms, I just didn't know how to fill them, to make them look realistic and not just big boxes. I don't think I learnt enough between the hideout maps and this one, I just used mostly the same skills I had used for the previous maps, and this wasn't good enough. The enemies still didn't move, but it was much more obvious here. There was still lots of Z-fighting, and this time the corridors were very poorly put together too.
I had originally intended to have a load of those mine monster things running around the place attacking stormtroopers as well as you, the whole place was supposed to be falling to pieces around you, ala Half Life. Sadly I couldn't get the mine monsters to attack the remnant forces as well as you, and this took a lot of the fun that might have been in the map out of it.
There were some good things in the map for me, using the prefabs was really the big improvement, and although it wasn't used well enough in this map, it was the one area in which I learned a lot when making this map.
After universal criticism, some of it fairly nasty (crossing the line between honesty and being offensive) I thought I might give up with mapping, but decided I'd try another map, not rushed like this one admittedly was, but taking a lot of time to do it, and do it right.

New features: I used some prefabs in the map
I created some machinery/equipment, a shield generator, a power generator, a load of control panels and some glass cage things.
